Why average order value matters
Revenue is visitors × conversion rate × average order value. Most sellers work on the first two and forget the third. Raising AOV by 10% is 10% more revenue from the same visitors and the same buyers, with no extra ad spend.
How to raise it
The usual levers: bundles, a free-shipping threshold just above your current average, tiers that make the bigger option the obvious choice for the people who need it, and add-ons offered at the right moment. The trap is pushing everyone to the expensive option: buyers who didn't need it ask for refunds or don't come back. We go through the levers, and what backfires, in how to increase average order value.
One lever is matching each buyer to the size of offer they actually need: the starter kit for a beginner, the bundle for someone buying several. That's what a few questions before the offer do; see ask before you sell.

Questions
How do you calculate average order value?
Revenue divided by the number of orders, over the same period. $12,000 from 240 orders is an AOV of $50.
Should I include shipping, tax and refunds?
Pick one definition and keep it. Most stores use revenue after discounts and before tax and shipping; your analytics tool may use another. What matters is comparing like with like.
Is AOV only for online stores?
No. Anyone with more than one price point has one: a course creator with a course and a mentorship, a consultant with an audit and a retainer, software with monthly and yearly plans.
What's a good average order value?
There's no universal number: it depends on what you sell. The useful comparison is your own AOV over past periods, and what happens to it after a change.
Do you store what I enter?
No. The calculator runs in your browser; nothing you type is sent anywhere.
